AIIMS To Perform Only Urgent Surgeries Amid Covid-19 Spike

One of the top institutions in the battle against coronavirus All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Delhi on Thursday said only urgent surgeries will be to be taken up in its operation theatres with effect from April 10 in view of the rising cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
To Decrease the spread of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and also to optimize diversion of available manpower and materials, resources for the care and treatment of suspected/confirmed patients of Covid-19 disease, it has been decided to temporarily close down routine walk-in OPD patient registrations, including specialty clinics in AIIMS hospital and all centers with effect from April 8.
This decision is taken while considering the daily infections hitting a record 1.27 lakh on Thursday – the most in the world and the third day this week over 1 lakh – the third-hardest hit country is soaring past its mid-September peak of around 98,000 cases.
